Who it is for
Who The Construction Clinic helps
We exist for homeowners, at any point in a building project. You do not need to be in difficulty to use the Clinic, and you do not need to know the terminology. If you are being asked to make a decision about your home and you are not sure what you are agreeing to, this is the right place.

You are in the right place if you areā¦
Planning an extension, renovation or refurbishment
You have an idea and a rough budget, and you are trying to work out what the process actually involves before committing.
See the journey stage by stageWaiting for planning approval
The application is in and the waiting is uncomfortable. This is a good moment to prepare rather than pause.
What happens after approvalComparing builder quotes
Three quotes, three different totals, three different assumptions. The cheapest is rarely comparing like for like.
How to compare quotesPreparing to start work
Scope, exclusions, payment schedule and start date. Everything agreed now is a decision you will not have to argue about later.
What should be in a quoteAlready on site
Work has begun and the decisions are arriving faster than the explanations.
Help during a buildFacing variations or extra costs
Something has changed, or something was found, and the number has moved.
Builder asking for more money?Unsure about a payment request
An invoice has arrived and you are not certain the work behind it has actually been done.
Should I pay my builder?Worried about delays or quality
Quiet weeks, moving dates, or something on site that does not look right to you.
Project delayed?Approaching snagging, handover or final payment
The end is in sight and the last payment is the last leverage you have.
Snagging and final paymentAnd who we are not for
The Construction Clinic is not a building company, an estate agency or a lead generation service. We do not quote for your work, and we do not take a fee for introducing you to anyone.
We also do not replace professional advice. Where a decision needs a surveyor, structural engineer, solicitor or building control officer, we help you understand that, and what to ask them.
